i’m not a super star war fan so maybe i’m missing something , but having a sword hilt that would sear through your flesh like butter feels counterproductive. in my opinion.

The hilt is protective, just the blade is the problem - and not so much of one if you can always know exactly where it is because *Force*.
They do train for a long time before they get one though, unless you get handed (for example) your dead Dad's.
