@tapbots why does the Pastebot page say "Texas state and local sales and use tax is included in the sales price"? I won't incur a Texas state/local sales and use tax obligation. I WILL incur a Washington state/local sales and use tax though.

This sounds like I'm paying taxes I don't owe to Texas AND will owe a tax payment to my local jurisdiction as well?

@gintoxicating It just means we (Tapbots) have to pay Texas taxes on each sale and are just disclosing it. Has nothing to do with whether you have to pay or not. We don't explicitly charge anyone tax when purchasing, but we have to pay taxes on every sale because we are based in Texas.

@tapbots ok but i am pretty sure that’s an incorrect way to collect sales/use taxes (not a CPA but i’ve run online businesses for almost 30 years)

if i buy a license online, i owe sales and use taxes where i was when the purchase happened (my state) and not in your state. so you are both paying a tax not due and leaving me with a liability.

anyway I just decided to skip buying, i don’t need the hassle. thanks for reply

@tapbots you misunderstand what that means and that article is irrelevant. I do not owe tax in Texas, I owe tax in Washington. That obligation is not resolved by you paying Texas.

Post-Wayfair the economic nexus for a transaction is where the purchaser is when purchasing.

You are likely exposing your interstate customers to tax liability risk, and paying unnecessary money to the Texas government.

(BTW you also seem to violate Texas Tax Code §151.704 in that you do not separately state the tax amount.)
