quick US voting guide for local school districts

even though US elections are bullshit, local school district elections are important votes if you care about protecting trans and queer youth. election day is tomorrow, november 4th.

"Parents rights" is a dog whistle for torturing and murdering trans and queer youth.

"Biological" gender is a dog whistle for torturing and murdering trans and queer youth.

"Protect federal funding" is a dog whistle for torturing and murdering trans and queer youth.

Do not let anti-science nutbag white women control your local education system at the cost of trans and queer lives.

I won't lie and say "your vote matters" on the rest of the other bullshit on your ballot - but In local elections your vote can actually matter and make a difference.

A "funny" aspect of multi-level elections with unsynchronized term cycles is that it's very easy to dismiss the off years as unimportant. "Oh, there's not even any positions being contested at the state level (if you're not in one of the five this year; tweak as appropriate for your country), I might vote if there's a ballot measure, but otherwise it's not important." But as @gintoxicating@transister.social said, the smaller the district, the more weight your vote has. There's a reason most of the fascist social initiatives have historically started by targetting schools, and it's not (just) because "think of the children" makes them more palatable.

Voting is questionable at the large scale, not the small.

@sam yeah 💯; I tried fitting something like that in but the message was already long.

These things are intentionally held in off years to reduce participation which benefits the right wing zealots. It sucks.
