After a bit less than 20 years, today is my last day working for Google.
Even though leaving is something Iām glad to do Iām still bad at change. For the past two decades my job has been the most stable part of my life through, like, everything: fertility and adoption struggles, an abusive marriage, my mom dying, a divorce, COVID, identifying/treating a congenital hormone imbalance[1], being assaultedā¦ā¦
Work gave me a second place that felt stable, where I could duck my head low and dig into something I know how to do really fucking well.
I could solve some other peopleās problems, write a design doc with more memes than text, get my report promoted, help a coworker navigate a toxic managerā¦
Even when my life (and, later, my career) was cooked I could focus on helping and with that came the joy of seeing someone I care about succeed.
Maybe Iāll post some fun stories (right now Iām in a shit mood so āfunā probably would be sarcastic but Iāve worked there long enough that I do have actually fun stories too)

Chaos meta, PSA safety warning against muCCC hackerspace.
For those that don't know, I called out the muccc hackerspace for someone there making us feel physically unsafe and opening the window intentionally to hurt us with cold air (we have severe cold sensitivity), and we learned later that it was cuz me and my gf (former muccc member) arrived earlier than them at the hackerspace (10 in the morning) and laid down for 2h. So the shithead immediately assumed, 2 transfems lying in bed = sex. Neither of us particularly care about being sexualized (I find it funny, gf "kindly fuck off"), but opening the window while it's below freezing, twice, while I politely asked them not to was a bit too much.
So, warning to anyone that wants to visit #muccc : they have chasers, and will go to great lengths to protect said chasers, including sexually harassing transfems in Matrix DMs. It's a physically unsafe space for any disabled transfem. Avoid at all costs.
